Book Synopsis
It
is just days before the Christmas of 1918 in Meyersdale, a picturesque
township nestled in the dense snow-covered mountains of western
Pennsylvania's coal country. Anna, an idealistic nine-year-old, has an
especially close relationship with her father, Joseph; a hardworking
engineer on the B&O railroad. One of Anna's most precious possessions is
a golden ring that was given to her on her ninth birthday by her
parents. A series of puzzling dreams shared by Joseph and Anna about the
giving and receiving of a ring mystifies them both. The dreams, and some
astonishing events demonstrate the importance of Anna's ring. Their
search for the meaning of these dreams leads them to share an emotional
and bonding Christmas experience. The dreams and events surrounding them
would prove to be the harbinger of significant and poignant truths. From
it Anna and her father would learn much about the human potential for
generosity and the virtues of giving, as well as our capacity for love
and faith. The experience, born from a common vision in the night, will
forever change Anna's and Joseph's feelings toward the holiday and each
other.
